Leukerbad – the offbeat Swiss holidays!

Leukerbad is a quaint village for you to experience the Swiss Alps’ countryside lifestyle. It is located in the municipality district of Leuk in the canton of Valais Switzerland. Whilst Switzerland as a whole offers its residence and visitors endless picturesque sights, there is something very special about Leukerbad that makes you fall in love with Switzerland over and over again.

This small albeit beautiful village of Leukerbad is surrounded by natural elements like the Mountains, the Valleys, the Forests, the Lakes and of course the Hot Springs

The Mountains

Ancient mountains that despite the test of time from the constant cast of mythical sunrays and numerous episodes of snow avalanche that grazed the surface of its’ rocks – still stands majestically strong.

Some of the peaks: Torrent, Torrenthorn, Rinderhorn, Steghorn, Altels, Wildstrubel and Bimhorn

Family/Independent activities to engage in: Hiking, biking, walking, climbing, bouldering, ski and snowboarding (in winter of course).

 

Valleys

Lush secluded valleys ornamented with various mountains, rivers, lakes, vineyards and farm animals that add depth to the already stunning landscape.\

Some of the valleys/river/village: Dalaschlucht trail that offers endless Swiss countryside view.

The wine Village of Varen is dedicated to cultivating wine as sustainably as possible.

Family/Independent activities to engage in: Hiking, biking and walking. Wine tasting and guided tour at Varen Village (September would be the wine festival; at other times the wine tour is for group booking upon advance request.

 

The Forests

Ohhh serenity of the forest! The towering trees with thick roots tightly woven across the forest floor, camouflaged among leaves and twigs. The constant waves of Christmas scent and earthy fragrant are fresh and provides natural cleansing properties for the mind and soul.

Some of the forests: Pfyn Forest is Europe’s largest pine forest positioned over the Torrent alp towards Folljeret and Leukerbad. It is a nature park center which welcomes the rushing streams of the Rhone River. This forest also borders the German and French speaking language in Switzerland.

The Lakes

The lakes from afar offers sights of still dark blue water with mirror image of the sky above and mountains surrounding it. The trails around the lakes offers quality time for you and your loved ones to discover and admire the stunning panoramic views of Valais and Bernese Alps.

Some of the Lakes: trails along Wysse, Dauben and Maijing Lake. These mountainous lakes in Leukerbad draws locals and foreigners to this coordinate for a well-deserved time to inhale and exhale nature and makes all 5 senses to unwind.

Hot Springs

Historically, the hot springs in Leukerbad dates back to Roman times. Even back then people already grasp the therapeutic effect of this precious water. Today, Leukerbad is the largest thermal spa resort in the Alps. It is a natural wonder in itself as the hot springs offers rustic charm and ancient approach to relaxation.

The steaming, mineral rich water has been either channeled into natural pools or man-made spas. It offers therapeutic and medicinal benefits to sooth the aching body and feet from hiking, skiing and long walks. It is also quite simply a place to head to for a dip into the thermal bath to experience the next level of relaxation and zen

 

Some of the Hot Springs/Wellness/ Thermals:

Leukerbad Therme – this is the largest thermal house in Leukerbad with 10 types of thermal bath including Switzerland’s first inner tube slide that is fun for the kids and adults!

Wallliser Alpenthermethe healing properties from the hot spring waters in Leukerbad invites you to pamper yourself at Walliser Alpentherme for its traditional and contemporary spa experience. Children above 8 years of age are allowed to access this thermal bath. 

Therme 51Experience Swiss Spa at this tastefully designed wellness center where the bath is filled with natural thermal water from 36 to 42 degrees Celsius.

Hotels with own thermal – there are a few hotels in Leukerbad that offers its own thermal baths. This includes Hotel De France; Hotel Regina Terme, Les Dources Des Alpes are some of the hotels with their own thermal baths.

Family/Independent activities to engage in:  On a daily basis generous amount of 3.9 million liters of pure mineral rich thermal water of up to 51 degree Celsius fills the pools in Leukerbad. It is the therapeutic and magical effects of this water that made travelers constantly visit Leukerbad since the middle ages. In Leukerbad, the choice is yours, if you wish to go to a kids free or kids friendly thermal baths.
